People told us they were treated with dignity and respect and were encouraged to make choices that affect them.

26 May 2011

During an inspection in response to concerns

People we spoke with during out visit told us there were enough staff around when they needed and that they didn't wait long for help. One person told us that, although he enjoyed the peace and quiet of the home, he wished he could get outside more, and visit places of interest. He stated he had only been outside the home three times in the last 18 months. He also reported that he would like to stay in the lounge after 8 pm, but felt he couldn't, as night staff came on duty then and tended to 'take over' the space. Another person became upset when we asked her about how staff helped her to move, indicating that she found the experience distressing.

6 April 2011

During an inspection in response to concerns

During our first visit on the 6 April 2011, which was late at night, we did not speak to any of the people who live there. However on 13 April 2011 we were able to speak with some of the people living in the home. The majority of people we spoke with told us that they were well looked after and happy with the care they receive. One person told us that they were not happy with their care. Another person told us that there were not enough staff and that existing staff are always very busy.

6 December 2010

During a routine inspection

The people we spoke with during our visit had no complaints about the care they received in the home. They confirmed that staff treated them with dignity and respect and were always polite.

Two people we spoke to said that they had become great friends since living in the home.

As some people were not able to verbally express their views about how they felt we ensured that we observed how they were treated by staff. It was clear that the staff knew the individual people well and were aware of what support they needed. Choices were offered in a way that people can understand with respect and dignity upheld.
