During a routine inspection

People told us they were involved in the arrangements about the care they received. People told us they were able to make choices about their daily routines and what they wanted from a care worker. People were treated with respect and their independence was respected.

Care plans provided comprehensive information about the care needs of the individual. There was person centred information so that care was tailored to the individual. There was a flexible and responsive approach to ensuring care needs were being met. People told us they could not have managed without the care they received and the service was professional in its approach.

People told us they felt safe using the service. Staff we spoke with demonstrated an understanding of abuse. They were aware of their responsibilities in reporting any concerns about possible abuse.

We found there were the necessary selection and recruitment systems in place. Staff were supported to undertake their role and responsibilities professionally.

The service undertook quality assurance questionnaires so that people could provide feedback about the quality of the service they received. The service took action to address any dissatisfaction with the service.

During a themed inspection looking at Domiciliary Care Services

We carried out a themed inspection looking at domiciliary care services. We asked people to tell us what it was like to receive services from this home care agency as part of a targeted inspection programme of domiciliary care agencies. The inspection team was led by a CQC inspector joined by an Expert by Experience, who has experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of service.

We used telephone interviews and home visits to people who used the service and to their main carers (a relative or friends). We visited three people in their homes and spoke to eight people over the telephone.

People told us that they were very happy with the care and support they received. One person told us they were very pleased with the support provided by their live in care worker, they said, 'My health has improved and I have gone on from strength to strength since this was all arranged. I can say I am really very happy with the arrangements in place.' Another person told us they always knew when their regular live in carer was going away and was always introduced to the temporary care worker who would move in with them. The care worker told us that they wrote an in depth care plan to provide information to a temporary care worker and would also handover information verbally.

One relative told us the arrangements were excellent as it meant their relative could continue to meet their friends and take part in their local community. Another relative told us. 'I cannot fault their care, they are lovely ladies, the staff are well trained and the service is very good'. One relative told us, 'we are all very impressed with the levels of care, they have very high standards'.
