During a routine inspection

We undertook this routine inspection with two experts by experience. This was because St Georges offers a service to people with a range of differing needs.

People were involved in planning their care although this was not always well recorded.

Care and support was provided by staff who were pleasant and were observed to have a caring approach. Comments from people using the service included 'staff are lovely', '[staff are] nice to me' and 'staff are all OK'.

There were written care plans which were regularly reviewed.

The provision of food was good. There was choice at each meal. We saw plentiful proportions of well-presented food being enjoyed by people using the service.

Staffing was provided at a level which allowed for the safe delivery of care.

People could complain if they needed to. However, the written procedure could be improved and better communicated.

During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke with three people who used the service .

Everybody who we asked told us that they had been involved in some discussions about the way in which their individual care should be provided. Not everyone who we asked could recall being involved in a formal review of the service. However, everyone was confident they could influence the way in which their care needs were met. They also told us staff were respectful and would listen to them. One person said you could "talk [to staff] about what help you needed".

People told us that they felt safe living at the care home and that staff treated them well. One person said "I feel I would be able to go and speak to somebody if I had an issue". Another person said "staff are nice, they treat you well".

People told us that they believed the staff came across as well trained and competent.

Everyone who we asked told us they were periodically asked if the service provided was okay. People also told us they believed they could complain if necessary and that any complaint would be listened to. One person told us "I am open and they are receptive".
