All Inspections

6 December 2013

During a routine inspection

On the day of the visit there were five people living in Tall Trees. We met four people who use the service and spoke with two. We also used a variety of methods to understand people's experience for those with less verbal communication. We spoke with one member of staff and the acting manager. Due to some changes in management within the provider's services, the person named in this report recently left Tall Trees to manage a sister home.

We found that people were involved in their support and care and that staff asked people before they provided care. We saw that care plans were in place and reviewed. People told us that they, 'Like living here,' and, 'Like staff.'

We found that there were safe systems and processes in place for managing people's medicines. The quality of the service was monitored and audited. We saw evidence of accurate and up to date record keeping.

Staff told us that they work closely as team, and that all decisions made about support and treatment was fully discussed with the person who used the service, family and multi-agency team.

During our inspection we found that care staff had formed professional relationships with people who lived in the home. The premises were clean and generally well maintained and the atmosphere was relaxed and homely. We saw that the service followed clear policies for infection control procedures. People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and support safely and to an appropriate standard.

People were enabled and supported to make choices about their daily lives. They had input into how the home was run and were able to influence decision making processes. Care staff knew the people's needs and personalities well. This was evident from direct observation of individuals being supported in a professional, sensitive and respectful manner.
