During a routine inspection

We spoke with a total of 29 people about the service; this included 16 people and 13 relatives of people who used the service. They were very positive about the service provided, their comments included, 'Excellent' and 'Very satisfied.' One person's relative commented 'X sends staff who care' Another person said 'I am very lucky, they are very kind.' One person told us 'I wouldn't be able to manage without them.'

We found that people's care needs had been assessed. People had been consulted about their wishes with regards to their care. They had been asked to sign various consent forms to indicate their written agreement with the care provided.

There were processes in place to manage medicines. People we spoke with were satisfied that medicines were managed safely. We found however, that one of the systems in place to record the administration of medicines had not always been completed fully by all staff.

Staff had been provided with an induction when they commenced work and regular refresher training. Staff were encouraged to undertake further professional development. Their work was monitored through regular supervision.

The provider regularly sought people's feedback about the quality of the service. They also sought feedback from the staff about the service.

There was a complaints system that people had been provided with information about.

The majority of people we spoke with expressed a high level of satisfaction with the service. We were told that it was 'very good care' and that the service was 'well run'. People told us that they felt involved in their care planning and that their preferences and care needs were taken into account. Most people felt that they received their care at the time that they wanted it. People told us that the carers were generally on time and never more than five minutes late. People liked to receive a copy of the roster as they knew who was coming to provide their care and at what time. People told us that the carers 'always have time for you'.

People felt that the staff were well trained and told us that they felt safe in their care. We found that the provider had an effective recruitment system to ensure that staff were suitable for the role.

We also found that the provider sought the views of people who used the service and the staff. We spoke with members of staff who told us that they enjoyed the job.
