During a routine inspection

Next Generation employed two teams of care workers to provide approximately 504 hours of personal care services for people requiring twenty four hour, seven days a week, care and support in their own homes. We looked at the care records for two people and visited one person in their own home. We spoke with four members of staff and the registered manager/provider, Mr Chris Crocker.

We observed that care workers were pleasant, friendly and respectful with the people using this service.

We saw that people were involved in their plan of care and how their needs were to be met. We saw that individual care records were very detailed and described the person's needs and how those needs were met.

The care workers told us that the support from their teams enabled them to do their work well. They knew the lines of accountability and who they could contact for support. We found staff were up to date with training essential to their roles and responsiblities, and they had annual refreshers when required. We also found regular one to one supervision and team meetings took place.

We found measures were in place to address issues about staffing and management of staff providing personal care services.

During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods such as reviewing records, we talked to staff, the manager and we talked with relatives to help us understand the experiences of people using the service. This helped us to review the care and support as people using the service lived in the community and had complex needs.

The satisfaction surveys that we saw showed us that people's views and experiences were taken into account in the way the service was provided and delivered in relation to their care. People rated the quality of their care between good and excellent.

People who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening. We spoke with staff and staff demonstrated an understanding of the safeguarding procedures and the different forms of abuse.

We spoke to a person's relatives, they told us that they felt very involved in their relatives care and that if there were ever any problems that the manager was very quick to respond to resolve these. They told us that staff knew and understood their relative's needs really well and because of this their relative had been supported well and kept safe. They were happy with the variety of activities their relative had been involved in and stated that their relative had been given a variety of choices for the activities, and that these were meaningful to them.
