The service should have quality checking systems to manage risks and assure the health, welfare and safety of people who receive care (outcome 16)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Benefit from safe quality care, treatment and support, due to effective decision making and the management of risks to their health, welfare and safety.

How this check was done

We reviewed all the information we hold about this provider and carried out a visit on 30/01/2012.

Our judgement

Overall the provider was meeting this outcome. The service has arrangements in place to support decision making and manage risks.

User experience

There were no service users attending for consultation on the day of our visit, so we were not able to seek their views.

Other evidence

The clinic takes part in a quarterly audit programme managed by the providers governance and risk department. Audits include data protection, fridge monitoring, records review and the completion of patient quotation forms.

We saw that the clinic had a comment book and patient satisfaction surveys available for service users in the main reception area. The surveys, which included questions about pre operative consultation and post operative care, are collated by the providers head office and reviewed by the quality group. We saw that an annual report on patient satisfaction survey responses had been produced by the provider.

We saw that data, detailing activity and outcome from incidents and complaints, was available on the providers intranet site. Trends and themes were identified in relation to adverse events, infection control and complaint data.

The provider had risk assessment and incident reporting policies in place. Staff we spoke to knew how to access these policies and how to report an incident. We saw that the clinic had carried out an annual fire, health and safety and infection control risk assessment.

The provider had a health records policy in place. We saw that five sets of patient notes had been audited by the providers governance and risk department to ensure that the content was compliant with the health record standard.
