During a routine inspection

We were able to speak with one patient attending the clinic for a post-operative appointment with the nurse during our inspection visit. The patient felt their privacy and dignity had been maintained throughout their experience. They explained that they had been well supported and stated 'been lovely ' couldn't wish for any better [support].'

We reviewed a sample of patient's views recorded on 10 patient satisfaction questionnaires completed in September 2013. Some patient comments captured included, 'always get a good level of service from all the staff', 'very professional staff thank you', 'friendly and professional' and 'made to feel very welcome, lovely staff.'

We found processes were in place to safeguard patients from the risks of abuse.

We found staff were adequately supported because they received regular training sessions and an annual appraisal.

We found there were systems to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that patients received.

We found patients were protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records had been maintained.

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with three people who used the service and observed two consultations. People who used the service understood the care and treatment choices available to them. Staff told us people were given a period of time between their consultation and treatment. This enabled them time to consider all of the information they had been given, before deciding whether to go ahead with the treatment or not.

People who used the service experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights. They had detailed care plans relating to their care needs. People were positive about the service. One person said, "It's been an excellent experience."

The provider had taken steps to provide care in an environment that was suitably designed and adequately maintained. Consultation rooms were sufficiently equipped to ensure people's privacy and dignity was maintained.

People were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff. Staff we spoke with were clear about their role and responsibilities. People who used the service told us they had received a good standard of care.

We found people's complaints were fully investigated and resolved wherever possible to their satisfaction. Learning from complaints were discussed at team meetings. This ensured people's complaints were listened to and acted on effectively.

"Thank you so much for your caring and understanding you are so fantastic at your job and without you I would have never done this and always dreamed about having this op. You are a credit to the hospital group"

"To [the clinic manager, the surgeon] and the team, I just wanted to say thank you so much for all the care, support and help you have given me before, during and after my surgery. It has been so personal and genuine; it really has made me feel so cared about'
