All Inspections

30 August 2013

During a routine inspection

Not all the people living at Hazelbrae were able to tell us their experiences. However we spent time with people and observed how they were supported by the staff at Hazelbrae.

Relatives of people living at the home were complimentary about the care and support they received. One visitor said, 'Very kind and helpful staff.'

Professionals working in partnership with the home to provide support for the people living there had commented, 'The staff are always friendly and courteous."

We saw that wherever possible consent was gained prior to delivering care.

We found that care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that ensured people's safety and welfare.

We saw documentation that the provider responded appropriately to any allegation of abuse.

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs. We saw that complaints were taken seriously and there was an effective complaints system available.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We carried out this inspection to follow up on a compliance action made in September 2012.

We looked at systems in place in relation to the cleanliness and infection control. The standard of cleanliness and hygiene was maintained to a good standard. Systems to monitor and reduce the risks associated with hygiene and infection control practice had been established. A person who used the service told us, 'the home was clean and their clothes were well laundered and clean.'

4 September 2012

During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service, because the people using the service had complex needs which meant they were not always able to tell us their experiences.

People told us that they could make choices and that these were responded to. Three relatives told us that people living and visiting the home were treated with respect and staff were kind and courteous. Relatives said that they were kept informed of any changes in care and were involved as necessary in any planning of care.

People using the service and relatives we spoke with expressed a satisfaction with the standard of care provided. They were also positive about the staff working in the home with regard to their approach and competency.

Feedback from people and relatives was positive about the cleanliness of the home.
