Not met this standard

  • Are not at risk of harm from unsafe or unsuitable equipment (medical and non-medical equipment, furnishings or fittings).
  • Benefit from equipment that is comfortable and meets their needs.

How this check was done

Our judgement

People who use services who are not able to use stairs to access their bedrooms are not provided with a safe alternative.

User experience

People who use the service were seen using wheelchairs and walking aids.

Other evidence

Staff told us that they had received a visit from a Havering Local Authority, Health and Safety Officer. This Officer had undertaken an inspection of the home and the home was due to receive a report.

There is a very steep ramp on the ground floor leading from the small lounge to some bedrooms. We were told that this was the only alternative route for people could not use the small flight of stairs.

Staff explained how they supported people unsteady on their feet or reliant on a wheel chair, to use the ramp. This was unsafe and could also put the health and safety of the supporting staff at risk.
