People should be protected from abuse and staff should respect their human rights (outcome 7)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are protected from abuse, or the risk of abuse, and their human rights are respected and upheld.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 28 February 2013, talked with people who use the service and talked with staff.

Our judgement

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

Reasons for our judgement

The provider had procedures regarding safeguarding and whistleblowing. The provider may find it useful to note that there was not a copy of the current local authority procedures available at the home.

Staff completed safeguarding training. Staff we spoke with were able to describe different types of abuse and were aware of their responsibility to report concerns to the local authority to be investigated. The manager was booked onto the local authority safeguarding training and was the nominated alerting manager.

People we spoke with said they "feel safe living here".

There were no current safeguarding concerns.
