All Inspections

23, 30 July 2013

During a routine inspection

During this inspection we spoke with three people that used the service, a relative, four support workers and the manager.

All the people that we spoke with told us that staff discussed their care and support with them and they were able to give consent to their care. One person told us, 'I want to be independent and staff help me to do things. It's fifty- fifty how we decide to do things.' We found that before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes.

All the people that we spoke with told us that they received the care and support that they needed. A relative told us, 'X is doing much better now. The carers are quite good, his drugs have been reduced and he seems a lot better.' We found that people experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights.

All the people that we spoke with told us that they were treated well by the staff that supported them. We found that people were cared for by staff that were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

All the people that used the service and a relative that we spoke with told us that they were happy with the service they received. We found that the provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.

All the people that we spoke with told us that they would speak with the manager or a member of staff if they had any complaint or concerns about the service. We found that comments and complaints people made were responded to appropriately.

During a routine inspection

we found evidence to show that people using this service are supported through a person centred approach to service provision. There are systems in place to protect the welfare and safety of individuals and ensure that their physical health is monitored. Staff are trained to the level to which the provider has identified as appropriate and the registered manager ensures the quality of the service by regular auditing.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We carried out this review to check on the care and welfare of people using this service.

We spoke with people who used the services. The following reflects the views of all people using the provider's service.

As part of our review we spoke with staff members who work for the provider and people who are in receipt of personal care. We did this because we wanted to obtain their views about the service they had received.

People who used Selborne Care Limited services told us that they got 'all the support that I need' and that staff were 'always on time'. People also told us that the staff 'talk about the care plan and receive the right care' and 'staff are brilliant and hard working, look after me'.

We were unable to speak to further people during our inspection as people declined to talk to us. We saw that staff promoted independence where possible to people and had a good understanding of people's individual preferences.

Staff treated people respectfully and in a dignified manner. Through discussion with staff we heard that they had good understanding of what was important for people who used the service.
