During a routine inspection

People who used this service and their relatives told us that they were happy with the care and support provided at Park House. One person said 'it's nice here, it's a good place to live.' A relative told us 'no problems, she's been great and as long as she is happy so am I.'

People were treated with respect and they were encouraged to be as independent as possible. For example we saw one person helping with the evening meal and another person told us that they always made their bed. People's care, health and welfare needs were being met and they were receiving a safe service. One relative told us 'yes she is safe there and there are enough staff.' A person who used the service said 'the staff are nice, they look after me.' The necessary checks were carried out to ensure that staff were suitable to work with vulnerable adults.

The provider also managed the service and had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who used the service and others. For example we saw that fire alarms were tested regularly and that services such as gas and electricity supplies were checked to ensure that they were safe.

During a routine inspection

People's care, health and welfare needs were being met. They were happy with the quality of care that they received. One relative told us 'I am happy with the care and she is happy in herself.' One person who uses the service said 'it's alright here, I like it. I do lots of things and the staff are nice people, I like them.' Another told us 'if I am not well the staff help me and take me to the doctor.' There were systems in place to ensure that people received their prescribed medication appropriately.

We found that there were sufficient staff on duty to meet people's needs. A member of staff said 'two is enough staff to meet people's needs.'

People had confidence that if they were not happy about anything the manager would address this. A person who uses the service said 'if I was not happy I would tell the boss.' One relative said 'I can get hold of the manager at any time. I have her mobile and her home numbers.' People were protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care because accurate and appropriate records were maintained.

During a routine inspection

During the course of our inspection we met and spent time with three of the four ladies who use this service. They talked to us about what they did, what they liked and about Park House. We were also able to speak with one person's relative. All the people we spoke with were happy with the care and support provided by the service. We saw that people who use the service and staff spent time together doing different things and chatting to each other. People were treated with respect by staff and were relaxed in their company.

A person who used the service told us, 'I like living here. It's good and staff are nice.' A relative said, 'It's obvious that they are all quite happy there. The fact that they are happy speaks for itself. My relative sees Park House as her home and is always happy to go back there. Yes, she is very safe there.'

There were two staff on duty and we spoke to both of them. One said, 'The ladies are happy. They go out and about. They are given choices and asked what they want to do. Sometimes they change their minds frequently during the course of one day but it's up to them. They are all different and most of them are able to tell you exactly what they want to do and if they are happy or not.' The other said, 'They have a good life and are well treated and respected. They are encouraged to be independent. They help with the cooking and cleaning and they are always talking to staff. They are encouraged to make choices for everything.'
