There should be enough members of staff to keep people safe and meet their health and welfare needs (outcome 13)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are safe and their health and welfare needs are met by sufficient numbers of appropriate staff.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 13 January 2014, talked with carers and / or family members and talked with staff. We reviewed information given to us by the provider.

Our judgement

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people’s needs.

Reasons for our judgement

During our discussions with staff they talked about the training they had undertaken for example; health and safety, moving and handling, safeguarding vulnerable adults, risk assessments and medicines training. This meant staff at the agency had the competencies, knowledge and skills to meet the needs of the people who used the service.

People who used the service told us their views about the agency staff. They all displayed a high level of satisfaction with staff and levels of staff. One person told us, “They are a good team, they really care for [relative] well.”

People we spoke with said they were generally cared for and supported by the same staff and that staff were available when needed. They said that staff were able to provide care in a timely unhurried way and that they were happy with their care. One person said, "They really look after me well.” Another person said, "I couldn't be looked after any better.”
