People should be cared for by staff who are properly qualified and able to do their job (outcome 12)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are safe and their health and welfare needs are met by staff who are fit, appropriately qualified and are physically and mentally able to do their job.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 1 November 2012, observed how people were being cared for and talked with people who use the service. We talked with carers and / or family members and talked with staff.

Our judgement

People were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

Reasons for our judgement

We saw that there were effective recruitment and selection processes in place to ensure the suitability of new staff to their role. We looked at the records for four staff members and these showed that appropriate checks were undertaken prior to new staff commencing employment such as two references and a Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) check.

The staff records we looked at showed that the staff members had the relevant qualifications, skills and experience to carry out their role.
