During a routine inspection

Both people we spoke with could make all decisions for themselves. We saw evidence on their files that they did so, for example one person had decided not to have their weight checked by staff.

People's care and support was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.

People were protected against the risks associated with medicines because the provider had appropriate arrangements in place to manage medicines.

People we spoke with told us that they could speak to any staff member if they had any problems or concerns. One person said that they were confident that they would be taken seriously and they would do their best to sort the problem out.

Prior to our visit we contacted the local safeguarding and commissioning teams about the service. They informed us that they had no concerns about 1 Newtown Mews.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to people living at the home, the manager, one member of staff and relatives by telephone. We also received comments from other professional agencies such as social services and the Salford and Bury council's contracts monitoring team, who said they currently had no issues with the service.

Although this is a small home responses from people we spoke to were positive. One relative said, "Amazing the people who look after my son.' Comments from people living at the home included, "Yes I like it here.' And, I would not want to live anywhere else.'

Both the manager and member of staff had a good awareness of individual care needs and the importance of treating people with respect and dignity. People were aware of the religious needs of residents and were able to support them. A member of staff said, 'It is necessary to be aware of the jewish culture so you can provide the respect and support needed.' A person living at the home said, 'They help me with my prayers.'

The staff we spoke to said to us this is a good care home to work for and felt supported in carrying out their roles. One staff member said, "Although it's a small home the manager and other staff all get along well.'
