All Inspections

During a routine inspection

There was one person living at the home on the day of our visit. We had announced our intention to visit an hour before our arrival. This was to ensure we did not cause any unnecessary distress to the person living there.

The person showed us around their home and told us they liked the facilities. The person had complex communication needs. We saw that staff supported them to express their experiences to us in their preferred style about their care choices.

We saw that staff were attentive and knew how to support the person with their day to day living arrangements. We saw that the person was actively involved in choosing their activities.

We saw that staff had access to support plans and risk assessments to promote their understanding of the person's needs. We saw that an advocate had been sourced to represent their views. This ensured that their views and or decisions made about their care, treatment and support were being promoted and protected.

We saw that staff treated the person with respect; for instance supporting them with their personal mail. Information was presented to them in a way that the person could understand, such as explaining the contents of mail.

We saw that the person was encouraged to maintain their independence and develop new skills. They told us they helped with shopping, cooking and laundry. The person who lived at the home was supported to maintain activities that were interesting and stimulating and told us about their activities and holidays. We could see they were fully involved in choosing options so that they had a meaningful lifestyle.

The provider had taken steps to provide suitably designed facilities within which careful consideration had been given to the furnishings and fittings so that the person was safe in the environment they lived in.

The person had a good rapport with staff and staff knew their individual needs. We saw that staff received a range of training so that they had up to date knowledge and skills in order to support the person who lived there. We found that staffing levels were appropriate to meet the person's needs.

There were systems in place to monitor the home, to ensure the person received a quality service, and we saw these were consistently carried out.
