During a routine inspection

The domiciliary care service we visited was provided exclusively to people in supported living accommodation within the grounds of the RNIB complex. We spoke with two people who use the service. Both were satisfied with the care and support they received and were happy with the way they were treated. One person told us, "I like the staff. I need help when I go out and they are always there".

We saw that people were treated with respect and involved in their care whenever possible. We observed that the care given was safe and appropriate and based on effective care planning and risk assessments. This meant that people's individual needs were met and preferences were taken into account.

People were protected from abuse and cared for in a safe and inclusive environment. We found evidence that people were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff. This meant that the care was of an appropriate standard. We also found that the provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.

We met and spoke with some people who use the service and everyone we spoke with said that they were happy with the service provided.

People told us that they felt safe and well looked after. People told us that they could express any problems to the staff who would listen and take action to put things right. People said that they thought the staff were kind and caring.

The assessment process was robust so that the agency knew about a person's range of needs before they offered a service. Care plans were detailed giving staff the guidance they needed to ensure that they met people's needs and supported their personal goals.

People were involved in planning their care and treatment and had a say about their support workers. The agency worked closely with health and social care professionals to ensure that people remained safe and well.

Staffing was planned around individual needs and activities. This ensured that people had the support they needed when they needed it.

People looked relaxed in the company of each other and staff. We saw that people took part in a range of community based activities that they enjoyed and were involved in the local and wider community.

The feedback from people using the service was extremely positive.

We were told that staff are polite professional and kind.

One person told us that staff visit them in their accommodation several times a day to help them with various tasks.

One person told us that staff support them to access community facilities.

People told us that they enjoy using the gym located in the communal area on the ground floor of their apartment complex.

They also told us that they used to enjoy using a communal lounge in the same area when they had a television to watch.
