During a routine inspection

People using the service told us that they were happy with the care and support they received and were positive about the manager and staff team. There was a calm and supportive atmosphere in the home which showed us that staff had time to attend to their duties and were able to spend time with the people who lived there.

We spoke to people, reviewed records and made observations and saw that people received nutritious food and drink to support their needs. People were given choices of menu and specialist dietary needs were catered for. We saw that where necessary people were assisted to eat in a dignified and respecful manner and that meals were well presented.

We saw that people were protected from the risk of harm or abuse by up to date policies and procedures being in place and by staff knowing how and when to use them.

We saw that there was a caring and experienced staff team and that staff were well supported and trained appropriately to carry out their duties.

Quality audits were carried out at regular intervals to ensure the home was kept under review. Records showed us that families and professionals involved in people's care were consulted. Outcomes we reviewed from the last audit were positive.

We found people's privacy, dignity and independence were respected. People's views and experiences were taken into account in the way the service was provided and delivered in relation to their care.

One person told us it was 'a super place, marvellous. Everything you want but you don't have to do a thing if you don't want to'.

We found people experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights.

A friend of a person living at the home told us it was 'a hundred per cent care. They make you feel very welcome.

Another person told us that 'Staff listen to you'.

We found that people were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed.People were cared for in a clean, hygienic environment.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive. They were also able to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who use the service and others

We found that there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs. One person told us that they would have liked more staff, but said that it was 'a very short time if you have to wait. Very quick when I call the bell'.

During a routine inspection

People were being supported to participate in activities. One person was enjoying a game of dominoes with a member of staff.

One person told us they could not praise staff highly enough as they had been very helpful when they had been ill and had ensured their dignity was maintained throughout.

Staff were sensitive to people's needs, supporting them discreetly when they were upset. For example one person was becoming very anxious and staff supported the person suggesting a solution to their anxiety.

Independence was encouraged as far as possible. For example, carers guided an individual's hand to enable them to reach condiments themselves and season their own food.

Staff spoke with people in a respectful way, they used the person's preferred name and explained why they were supporting them. In some cases they orientated people to time and place and gave them reference points for example pointing out it was mid morning as coffee was being served.

People we spoke with told us they felt safe in the home.

People we spoke with were very complimentary about the staff who supported them. One person told us that staff were very kind.
