During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using because some people using the service had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences. We spent time talking to visitors, staff and observing the care provided.

We spent time with people and we observed staff being friendly and warm towards people. We observed that staff and people living at the home had positive relationships and people appeared relaxed and comfortable with their surroundings; with staff and the activities they were engaged in.

We found the arrangements for providing meals and snacks was good. People were involved in planning menus, shopping and cooking.

People received safe and appropriate care. The service had effective systems in place to ensure people were protected from harm and their health and wellbeing was protected at all times.

There were sufficient staff available to met people's needs and staff received appropriate induction and training to provide them with the skills and knowledge they required.

There was a complaints procedure in place, which included an easy read accessible format for people with communication difficulties.

One person told us' I love it here; we are one big happy family.' A visitor told us'This is the best place, absolutely marvellous care and support.'

During our visit we talked to people about the care they receive. One person told us that they were very glad to be at the home and that they had been helped,

'With a lot of very kind support from everyone' they went onto tell us 'I chose this home I liked it when I looked around, I was really glad of this place.' One person said 'I had a first floor room but the staff kindly let me have a ground floor room and we are decorating it and putting up new curtains, I think I will be choosing orange and black.'

We talked to people about health care and how people living at the home access them. One person told us 'I go to see my GP when I want to see them if I don't feel well. I also have the Chiropodist and I go to the Dentist near here.'

We did not talk to people who live at the home about cleanliness, infection control and the training of staff.
