During a routine inspection

A relative told us that they 'couldn't be happier with the care" their relative received and that the care staff were 'doing a great job'. Another relative told us that they knew their relative was happy at Barth Close, as, after a visit with them, they were always happy 'to go home'.

We saw that staff had a good understanding of the needs of the people they supported. Staff understood how people communicated their needs and responded to their requests. People were encouraged to make choices in their daily lives.

People appeared to be relaxed and happy with the staff supporting them. Care staff were patient and respectful with the people who lived in the home.

We looked at a sample of care plans. These were very detailed and provided staff with the information they required to meet people's needs. Plans included details of people's personal care and support needs and how they communicated. There was also information about people's health needs, their likes, and dislikes and relevant risk assessments.

Relatives told us they were kept informed of any issues and invited to attend review meetings.

During a routine inspection

People who lived at the home were not able to speak with us about the care they received. We saw that staff had a good understanding of the needs of the people they supported. Staff understood how people communicated their needs and responded to their requests. Staff were warm and respectful, knocking on the door of a person's room even when it was open. People were relaxed and happy with the staff supporting them. One relative told us that their relative felt Barth Close was their home and that they were settled there.

We looked at a sample of care plans. These were very detailed and provided staff with the information they required to meet people's needs. Plans included details of people's personal care and support, health needs, risk assessments and people's likes and dislikes. One relative told us about their relative that "within reason they get the care we want them to get".

Three relatives told us that support staff were friendly and professional but that there had been a period after a manager left that staff appeared to be a little unsupported. They said that they thought matters were starting to improve again but felt that communications with relatives could be improved.
