All Inspections

25 September 2013

During a routine inspection

Before we visited, we looked at the information we had received from the provider. As part of the inspection we spoke with three people who used the service. We also spoke with the two support workers present and used observation to help us understand the experiences of people using the service, because some of the people had complex needs which meant they were not all able to tell us their experiences. The manager was not present when we visited, but we received more information in a telephone conversation following our visit.

During our inspection visit we observed that support workers gained people's consent before and during any care and support was provided. We saw people were offered choices with drinks, food, where they sat and what they wanted to do. Where people did not have the capacity to consent, the provider acted in accordance with legal requirements.

People chose what to eat and had a variety of appropriate meals and drinks to meet their needs. When we asked about the food, one person said, "I like it."

We found that support workers were knowledgeable about the medication they were administering and saw records to show people received their medication as prescribed by a doctor.

There were two support workers and usually a manager in the home each day. At night there was one support worker. People we spoke with seemed relaxed with the support workers present when we visited.

There were no records of any complaints made during the last year.

6 December 2012

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We observed that people were receiving individual attention to meet their needs and they indicated that they were satisfied with the service. One person had been shopping with one to one staff support and told us that he had thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Relevant information in written care plans had been fully completed and updated since our last visit.

People appeared happy and secure with the staff. The provider demonstrated that staff were supported and observed on a regular basis.

In this report the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still a Registered Manager on our register at the time.

During a routine inspection

We saw three of the four people that currently lived in the home. The fourth was on holiday with staff. Each person had chosen their individual holiday and one person told us about a holiday the previous week.

Two people told us they always had a choice of what, where and when to eat.

We saw that staff were attentive to people's needs and arranged for a doctor to visit one person during our visit.

People we spoke with said that staff were "alright" and two people confirmed that they felt safe at the home.
