During a routine inspection

We spoke with seven of the eight people who lived in the home. Everyone said that staff always asked them what they wanted and would never do anything without their permission. People agreed that staff treated them respectfully. Each person had their own bedroom, some with en-suite facilities. A wet room had been installed in a ground floor bedroom to enable one person to maintain their independence. The home was clean and comfortable throughout with various personal items of the people who lived there.

Care plans were person centred and recorded the aims and objectives of the plan, the current situation for the person, actions and evaluations. In addition to the plans for staff, they were also available in pictorial format to help people understand the support they received. People were provided with a choice of suitable and nutritious food and drink. One person told us that everyone decided what the weekly menu would be. A member of staff showed us a four-weekly rota which evidenced that people received a balanced and nutritious diet. The rota contained a variety of meat and fish dishes, fruit and vegetables along with treats. Staff said they encouraged people to have vegetables or salad with each meal.

The home had a recruitment policy and processes in place. Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work. Audits were carried out throughout the year, for example record keeping, incidents, complaints, training and health and safety.

staff.

The home had a comfortable environment with a large well kept garden for people to sit in.

People said they enjoyed having their own room and space and had personalised them with items of their choice. Staff said they encouraged people to participate in the daily routines of the home, such as cleaning their room or helping in the garden.
