All Inspections

14 February 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with all five people living in the home about their experiences of the care and support provided. People told us they were happy, safe and comfortable.

We were told that the staff would listen should people have concerns or worries, "but we never do."

People told us there were lots of things to do and that they were involved in the day to day running of their home. Some people work on a part time basis and enjoy doing so. We were told, "I really like going to my job."

People told us they went out often and had lots of friends in the community, particularly within the local church. We saw photographs of people's holidays, which they had planned with help from staff.

We observed that staff were friendly and respectful to people. People told us that the staff team were "the best" and "a good laugh."

People told us they took part in resident's meetings to discuss important issues such as planning activities, events, holidays, meals and domestic tasks.

Staff supported people to maintain and develop their independence and were clear about ensuring people did not place themselves at risk of harm. For example, some people had learned to travel without help from staff. Risks had been identified and plans put in place to reduce them and enable people the independence of travelling alone.

We were shown people's bedrooms which were comfortable and furnished to individual tastes.

We spoke with managers and staff about training to make sure they had the skills and knowledge to meet people's needs. The staff we spoke with said they enjoyed working in the home and felt they were "a good team."
