All Inspections

30 January 2014

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we visited the main house and two of the group homes, Hillcrest and Rusholme. We observed positive and caring interactions between staff and people who used the service. People appeared to be comfortable and relaxed in the care of the staff. People we spoke with told us the staff looked after them well. We saw people had a range of facilities to enhance their independence and with appropriate support were provided with opportunities for work and recreational activities in the local community.

Before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. We observed people were able to make decisions about their care and treatment. Where people did not have the capacity to consent, the provider acted in accordance with legal requirements.

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. We found staff were knowledgeable about people's needs and provided a good standard of care.

We found people were protected against the risks associated with medicines because the provider had appropriate arrangements in place to manage medicines.

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs. The provider had contingency plans in place to enable staffing levels to be flexible, and that they could be adapted to respond to the changing needs of the service.

There was an effective complaints system available. Comments and complaints people made were responded to appropriately.

4 April 2012

During a routine inspection

As part of our inspection we spoke with people who use the service. They spoke positively about the care and support they received. People told us about the range of activities they were supported to take part in and how staff helped them to develop their daily living skills. One person told us: "I work in the garden, I like doing this. I also go to the pub and have lots of friends."

During our inspection we observed that people who use the service were confident in approaching staff. Staff treated them with respect and patience.

People living in the home, confirmed they felt safe and said they liked the staff who looked after them. One person told us, "Feel safe here, good support from staff."
