All Inspections

During a routine inspection

It was evident from observations we carried out that people felt relaxed and at home. We observed that people were treated with warmth and respect. Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. People had person centred care plans which recorded their care needs and preferences and included their health needs.

People were supported to access the community and staff ensured people had the opportunity to take part in activities they enjoyed. Several people were out either for the whole day or part of the day, supported on an individual basis with activities of their choice.

There were sufficient staff to meet people's needs and staff were trained in understanding how people should be protected from abuse.

The home had effective systems in place to monitor the quality of the service with people's views being sought on a regular basis. The home was proactive in supporting people to complain and dealt with complaints effectively.

During a routine inspection

There was a relaxed atmosphere in the home. We saw activities taking place and staff interacted with people in a caring way. We spoke with three people. One person confirmed that they were respected and listened to by staff and that they felt safe. They told us 'The staff are good workers' and 'The boss (the manager) is brilliant.'

Other comments included 'Lovely here' and 'My room is spotless.' One person told us that they were going for a Christmas meal at a local community centre and confirmed that they had been on holiday during the year.

The registered manager was unavailable on the day of our inspection and we were helped by the four staff on duty. They demonstrated that they were confident and knowledgeable about people's individual needs and the way they should be cared for.

We looked at various records kept at the home. People's needs had been assessed and care plans had been developed in an accessible way with pictures to help people understand how they were cared for. We found detailed individual information about people's care. There was some information that had not always been reviewed and updated. Other records seen showed us that people were being kept safe and that staff had been trained to meet people's needs.
