All Inspections

10 May 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four of the people who lived at 3 Hesding Close and they told us that they were always treated respectfully. Their comments included: "The staff are nice here and are always kind to me". Another person said "I get on well with all of the staff, I have been here a long time and they all know me, they are all alright".

During our visit we saw that staff spoke to people in a kind manner and with respect. People told us that staff had asked them for their views about what to do, where to go and what to eat etc. This meant that people were involved in decisions about their life and showed that they had been given choices.

We spoke with four members of staff during our visit, including the registered manager. All of the staff were very motivated, caring and positive about working in the home and praised the teamwork and supportive atmosphere. We also spoke with a visiting healthcare professional who provided positive feedback about the care and welfare of people living at the home.

3 Hesding close provided a comfortable, safe and homely environment for the people that lived there.

Appropriate recruitment checks had been undertaken before staff began working at 3 Hesding Close.

Since our last visit improvements had been made to the records held about people. Records contained clear and up to date information that was reflective of people's needs and wishes.

1 December 2012

During a routine inspection

The provider had a system in place to gain and review consent from the people living at the home. We saw that people were able (with support) to make decisions about their day to day activities and choices.

When we were at the service, staff demonstrated how well they knew people's needs and ensured people were supported in line with their assessed needs and preferences.

We checked how the service was administering medication and found this was done safely.

There were enough staff with the right skills at the service to meet people's needs. We observed staff treat people with affection, warmth and kindness. Staff were patient and their work centred on the people who lived at the home.

People were not fully protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records were not being maintained.

During an inspection in response to concerns

Because of their complex learning disability, mental health or communication needs, people were unable to evaluate and discuss their care with us, but were able to make some short comments.

Staff told us in detail about how each person had chosen to be looked after and how they supported this. Each person needed different levels of care and people were being supported to continue with social and day to day activities. People were also encouraged to maintain and promote their levels of independence.

One person told us 'I like it here. The staff are very kind to me and help me'. They said they were happy with the care they received and were looked after well. They looked content and relaxed in the company of the staff.

Another person was interacting well with staff in friendly conversation
