All Inspections

17 July 2013

During a routine inspection

On the day of our inspection ten people lived in the home. During our inspection, we spoke with seven people who lived in the home, the provider, manager, one care worker, a domestic and a visiting healthcare professional.

All of the people we spoke with responded in a positive way when we asked them about living in the home and the care workers. One person told us 'we can do what we like'. During our visit we observed good interactions between staff and people who lived in the home. We spoke with one care worker who was able to tell us how they met people's care needs. People were supported to make their own decisions and encouraged to be as independent as possible.

We found that care workers were receiving appropriate training and professional development so they could carry out their job role effectively. Staff knew how to report concerns to ensure people were protected from the risk of harm.

There were systems in place to monitor the quality of the service provided. We found that records were secure, accessible and accurate.

During a routine inspection

During this inspection we spoke with six people who lived at the home and observed interactions between people and support workers. People told us they enjoyed living at this home. They said 'it's warm and friendly', 'I wouldn't want to be anywhere else'. People told us they would recommend it as a 'good place to live'. They were helped to remain independent and treated with respect. They were supported to live happy and fulfilling lives, and to make their own decisions. People who were able to came and went as they pleased. Some people had jobs. Everyone enjoyed leisure activities, going on holiday and days out.

People had their healthcare needs attended to and support workers were responsive to changes in their health and behaviour. They ensured referrals were made to healthcare professionals as appropriate, and followed the advice given.

There were enough support workers on duty, and they received training to meet people's needs. This included safeguarding training. People told us they felt safe and we observed that people were comfortable in the company of support workers.

The home had not yet developed systems for monitoring the quality of services provided or for identifying risk. Some records had not been kept as they should be. The way that people's money was managed was not completely safe or secure.
