During a routine inspection

On the day of our visit we spoke with five people who use the service, three family members and six members of staff. Service users we spoke to told us 'If it was one to ten and ten was best I would give them ten' 'It's very good, we are well looked after' 'They are all very caring' and 'They are all very caring and treat us with respect'

Family members told us 'They treat us with care and respect' 'Over and above requirements' and 'Care is absolutely fine'

Staff told us 'It's a really good place to work' 'I think we provide an excellent service to our service users, we do our best for them' 'It's a good company to work for' and 'We respect people's choices, we might not agree with them but we respect them'

We observed staff treating people with respect, compassion and kindness. The staff clearly had a good relationship with the people in their care including family members. We observed staff trying to keep people as independent as possible and respecting individual choices.

People who use the service are given a range of choices such as what day and time to receive personal care assistance and we noted that some people had printed details identifying the name of the carer who would be arriving, at what time and on what day. Family members told us that communication was very good and they could always contact someone if they needed to.

During a routine inspection

People we spoke with told us their privacy and dignity were respected. Staff we spoke with were able to tell us how they respected people's dignity and rights. We saw that people were involved in decisions about their care arrangements. We found that people were able to comment on the quality of the service they received.

People told us that the service was reliable and that they had a regular group of care workers who visited to provide their service. One person told us the service was "excellent, can't fault it". There were good arrangements in place for the comprehensive assessment of people's care needs.

We noted that improvements were needed in record keeping where care workers supported people with their medication. Staff we spoke with told us they had received medication training and training records we saw confirmed this. Staff had received the required core skills training and told us that training was "excellent". They told us they were well supported and had regular one to one supervision and managers were all "very approachable".

We found that the service undertook questionnaires which sought the views of people using the service. These provided feedback about the quality of the service. There were no arrangments in place to audit the administration of medicines. However systems were in place to monitor and audit other aspects of the service such as staff training.
