During a routine inspection

We spoke with five relatives to find out their opinions of the care and treatment at the service. One relative told us, 'I would recommend the home to anyone. The staff are lovely, you couldn't get any better for him."

We were unable to speak to all of the people using the service because of the nature of their condition. We spoke with staff and observed their practices to determine how care and support was delivered.

Relationships between staff and people were clearly good. Relatives told us and we saw in practice, staff treated people with respect and helped them to remain as independent as possible. One relative told us, 'The staff promote his independence by getting him to do things for himself. He does what he wants to do.'

We found people's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plans. Relatives we spoke with were positive about the care and support people received. One relative told us, 'She's been happy for as long as she's been there. I've no complaints whatsoever, they look after her well.' Another relative said, 'His room's beautiful now, absolutely lovely.'

We found that people were provided with a choice of adequate nutrition and hydration.

We saw that there were suitable numbers of skilled, trained and experienced care staff.

We concluded that people's personal records, staff records and other records relevant to the management of the home were accurate and fit for purpose.

During a routine inspection

People told us they were happy living at St Mary's View. They said they were able to make their own choices about what they did. One person said "I can watch telly, read a book, listen to music. If I want to go out for a walk I tell someone." Another person said "I like the food, we can choose something else if we don't like something." People said they liked the staff and they looked after them well. One person told us "The staff are nice to me."
