During a routine inspection

We saw the training records for staff. This showed us that staff had received basic training in the Mental Health Act. Information on the Mental Capacity Act was available for staff. The staff we spoke to told us they always asked people who used the service before providing any care. We saw evidence that people who used the service and where appropriate their relatives were involved in their care planning. Each person had a comprehensive pre-assessment undertaken before care was provided. Care plans and risk assessments were in place, up to date and had been reviewed regularly.

We saw no evidence during our inspection that showed the provider did not have enough staff in place. The comments we received about staff were all very complimentary. We saw evidence that the majority of staff had received their yearly appraisal. The provider might like to note that a number of staff still needed their supervision. The staff hand book stated that 'you will have supervision at least quarterly to discuss your work with your line manager'. Whilst we saw this had taken place it was not consistent.

Comments from people included 'I am delighted with the excellent level of service from a team of caring people'. 'The staff are very good and they do what is needed to be done and more'. 'Nothing is too much trouble; you are all doing a wonderful job'.

During a routine inspection

Due to the nature of the service, it was only possible to speak to one person who used the service. However, we were able to see recent feedback from 14 other people who use the service and from commissioners. We also inspected records held by the service.

One person told us "the staff always ask me what I want to do, I have choice and this is helping me gain my independence".

We saw other feedback in a recent (June 2012) questionnaire that stated staff listened to what people had to say. 13 out of the 14 replies also said staff treated them with respect and dignity.

The provider has recently moved location of their offices from 62 Painswick Road to 114 Bath Road and they are working with the Care Quality Commission to ensure the correct address is registered.
