During an inspection looking at part of the service

At the time of this inspection, there were two people living in this home. One person had recently had to leave after an accident in the home meant the home could no longer meet their needs. The two remaining residents told us they were happy in the home. One person said they felt safe. This person also said, "I am happy living here" and said that the manager was helpful. This person also said they liked the food. Both people said they would like more activities to fill their time. Neither person told us they had any concerns about the care provided to them in this home.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

Two people said they felt settled in this home while another said they were "fed up" with it and that "they never listen to you."

One person said their religious needs were met and said "They know my religion. I like it here. It's alright."

People said staff cook them a main meal at lunchtime. They said at breakfast and evening meal they only have sandwiches or cornflakes. One person who had gained weight since our last inspection said they were eating more now.

We asked two people if they felt safe in this home. Both said they did. We asked who looked after their money and both said that staff kept their money safe for them and gave them cash when they needed it.

One person said that they didn't have a positive opinion about the staff and felt they did not listen to people's views. Another said "they are alright" and the other person did not comment on staff.

Two people said they were settled in the home and one said they were not happy with the care provided.

During a routine inspection

We talked to the three people living in the home individually and spent four hours in the home observing the care and lifestyle that people experience. We also spoke with representatives of the authority who pay for the care of two people at the home. Summary of our findings for the essential standards of quality and safety Overall the feedback was that people are settled in the home and have the opportunity to form good relationships with staff. One person said they were not happy with the availability and variety of food. We asked all three people living in this home for their opinion on the food in the home. One said food was "alright" but could not think of any improvements they would like. One said the food was "not bad" and the other said s/he would like "more food." Two people said they ate the same food each week and there was not much variety. One person said they would like a cooked breakfast of egg and bacon but that this was not offered.

Two people told us about improvements needed in the home; for example, new fridge, new mattress, improved smoking area. People told us they go out independently. One person said, "I go to the shop to get my biscuits."

One person said they did not like the staff. The other two said that they liked the manager. One person said s/he liked the home and said it was "not bad" compared to other homes they had lived in. Another person said "It's alright." People said they did not have the option of going on holiday or on day trips to the seaside when we asked if they had this opportunity.

We asked two people if staff at the home support them to get other services; for example going to doctor and hospital appointments. Both said that staff organise these appointments for them and go with them as they cannot do this alone. We asked residents if they felt safe in the home. The replies were "yes," and "fairly safe." Two people said that staff look after their medicines and keep them locked away safely. They also said that staff give them their tablets at the correct times.

Two people complained that the smoking area was not pleasant, which we observed to be true. One person said they were not happy with their bed and the mattress was stained. One person said they had been given a copy of the complaints procedure and that is was in their bedroom.
