All Inspections

30 March and 30 April 2011

During a routine inspection

The majority of people we spoke with reported they were happy with the quality of care that they or their loved one received. People told us that staff treated them in a way that they liked, that there were enough staff around to meet their needs and that the food was good. One relative commented: 'I like the welcome I get when I visit and how nice the staff are to dad'. Another person said: 'Mum is happy there, there are enough staff and they look after her well'. However some people raised concerns: that there was not enough fresh fruit available, that the manager had suddenly resigned when they were not clear why and that there was not enough stimulation and outings for people. One relative told us: 'Dad just sits in his room all day and I know if staff just encouraged him a bit more he would join the other residents in the lounge'.

During an inspection in response to concerns

Almost all the residents we spoke to told us they enjoyed living at the home, that staff treated them well and that there were enough staff around when they needed help. Most reported that the food was good, but some expressed concerns that they were not given any choice in what was put on their plate at lunchtimes. One person told us there was not enough variety of food at tea time and, as a result, never bothered taking a meal then.

Most residents we talked to told us they were happy with the cleanliness of the home, although one resident told us the mirror above his sink was so smeared he struggled to see himself shaving.
