All Inspections

9 December 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with three people who used the service and the registered providers (referred to as staff). One person told us, 'I like it very much here; you could never get anywhere better.' Another person told us, 'I'm happy here, what else would I want.' Everyone we spoke with was complimentary of the staff. One person told us, 'The staff are very friendly, I can ask them anything.' Everyone we spoke with confirmed they were happy with the care they had received.

It was clear from our observations and from speaking with staff that they had a good understanding of the needs of the people living at the service and that they knew them well.

We saw that the service had systems in place to gain and review consent to care and treatment from people who used the service.

We found that people were provided with appropriate nutrition and had a choice in relation to their food options available. One person told us, 'I like the food, I get full up.'

People were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experience staff. We saw that for all staff members, appropriate checks had been undertaken before they commenced work.

The provider had a complaints system in place and had acted on comments and complaints received. People told us that they felt listened to and could feedback any concerns or issues. One person told us, 'I can always ask them anything.'

During a routine inspection

One of the people we spoke to told us, "I am happy with the way I am treated here. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else." they also told us, "I can go out whenever i want and they help me when I need support." They told us that the staff treated them with respect. One person said, "All the staff are polite and good humoured. We have a good laugh."

Care plans showed that the service had planned appropriately to meet the needs of the people who used the service. Records confirmed that each person living at the service was registered with a local GP and had access to other healthcare professionals as necessary.

We saw the service's safeguarding adults policy, which gave guidance to staff on the signs and symptoms of abuse, and clear instruction on how to respond to any concerns or allegations of abuse. We also saw the service's training book which showed that staff were provided with training on safeguarding vulnerable adults from abuse.

The staff team have a great deal of experience and knowledge of the health needs of people who use the service. People told us they felt that the care they received meant their needs were being met.

We saw examples of some of the measures in place to monitor the quality of the service provided. These included accident reports and health and safety audits, fire safety, gas and electricity checks and food hygiene audits.
