During a routine inspection

Glendale Court has been adapted and maintained to provide safe, comfortable, clean accommodation for the people living there. People can personalise their own rooms and also make suggestions on improvements to communal areas.

People told us that they thought the home was 'really good' and that staff were really 'helpful and friendly.

We found that people's consent was obtained and people were treated with respect and dignity before care was carried out. We spoke with people who told us they were given choices about their rooms, their food, where they ate and what time they got up.

We observed that people were free to come and go from the home. Staff told us that they were aware of the Mental Capacity Act and we saw that they had received training in this. People were involved in the development of their care plans and signed these to show consent.

People's individual needs were met through the development of risk assessments and care plans. The provider ensured that where there was a change in need, the care plan was reviewed and adjustments made if necessary. Staff treated people as individuals and worked with other health providers to ensure that a person's physical and mental health was looked after as well as their personal care.

Staff were recruited, trained and supported to deliver individualised care to people. The provider had sufficient staff with the right skills and experience to meet the needs of people throughout the day and night.

During a routine inspection

One relative told us they had visited several homes before deciding this one was the most appropriate for their needs.

We observed staff treating people respectfully. We spoke to people over lunch and in their rooms and they told us they were happy with the care provided. Some people told us they preferred to stay in their room but were happy to join in activities from time to time.

We also observed the manager reassuring a relative that they could support a person who would require palliative care.

We found the home had learned from a safeguarding incident which had taken place two years ago and had developed new policies and procedures which were in place.

People who live in the home told us that they were happy with the staff at the home. Comments included 'It's lovely here, all the staff are so kind', 'I couldn't wish to live in a nicer place' and 'l am very happy living here'.

All those we spoke to confirmed that they are more than satisfied with the quality of care and attention they receive at Glendale court. However, none could recall being involved in planning how they wished their needs to be met or in any reviews of care.

We asked people about the ability of the staff to provide the care and support they needed and their responses included, 'they are all very good' and another 'they are respectful but we do have fun'. People who live in the home told us that staff were usually available when they need them and that they feel safe living at Glendale Court.

We were given examples of choices that people are given that such as what time they get up, where they eat, and how they spend their time.

All of the nine people we spoke to told us they did not have anything to complain about and said that if they did the manager or her deputy were at the home each day to sort things out.
