During an inspection looking at part of the service

During our inspection on 15 August 2012 we spoke with people as we moved around the service and enquired after their wellbeing. Everyone told us that they were well. We did not ask any specific questions relating to people's care.

13 June 2012

During an inspection in response to concerns

During our visit on 13 June 2012 we spoke with six people using the service as they sat in the lounge before lunch and also during lunch time. We saw that there was a calm and happy atmosphere. Some people confirmed to us that they felt safe and others were not able to respond to our question. One person told us that they had diabetes and they were concerned that they needed to eat something as they felt that their blood sugar was low. Another person came up to us on three occasions following lunch and told us that they were hungry.

6 March 2012

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We carried out this review of the service to check compliance after our visit on the18 January 2012 and in response to people raising new concerns with us. During the five hours we were at the home, we toured the building paying particular attention to fire safety and examined care documents and safety records.

While we were in the home, we greeted people and chatted generally but, on this occasion, we did not talk to the people living in the home about any specific outcome. Many of the people living there are unable to express their thoughts freely, but those that could did not raise any concerns with us.

8 November 2011

During an inspection in response to concerns

Since the start of this review we have visited this service on three occasions to assess their compliance against the essential standards. Originally we went to the home in response to people raising concerns with us.

Many of the people living in Westhorpe Hall were unable to communicate in enough detail to tell us about the quality of their care, but those that could, told us that they liked living there, that the care staff worked hard to look after them and that they were comfortable most of the time, although on occasion they felt cold.

Those people who were unable to talk to us looked comfortable and relaxed and we noted that the atmosphere in the home was congenial and calm.
