1 October 2013

During a routine inspection

People that we spoke with during our inspection on 1 October 2013 were positive and satisfied with the care and support they received whilst living in the home. They made comments such as, 'The staff are kind and helpful and I enjoy living in the home.' People said that they were assisted by staff to help them organise their week and any events that were coming up. People felt that they could talk to the manager and staff whenever they wanted to sort out any problems or concerns.

Care and support was being regularly reviewed to ensure that peoples' needs were being met. There was evidence of people's involvement in the planning of their care and support.

There were procedures in place for the safe administration of medication and records of administration had been accurately completed.

There was regular staff supervision and ongoing training sessions in place to ensure that staff could safely deliver care and support to people.

Improvements had been made to records kept in the home to ensure that people received appropriate care.

3 January 2013

During a routine inspection

During this inspection on 03 January 2013 we spoke with several people using the service, they all confirmed that they felt safe and that staff helped them to do the things that they enjoyed. One person told us a great deal about the activities they liked to do and told us they made decisions at the daily morning meeting about what they wanted to do. They told us they could also talk to the cook at this meeting and choose the food they were going to eat that day. Another person told us they liked to go out and do volunteer work. Another person told us they felt safe because they always had the staff at the home to help them if they were not feeling well. All the people we spoke with told us the staff was very good. One person told us that, 'The staff always help me when I want to go out', and another said, 'The staff help me to feel more confident when I'm out'.

We found that the service was providing good, person-centred care to people, which met their individual and specific needs. Staff were competent in their roles and had taken time to acquaint themselves with people's preferences and needs.

Improvements were needed to the quality of some of the records, as not all of the care plans had been reviewed and updated.

The registered manager was no longer working at the home and an interim manager had been appointed two weeks prior to our inspection
