During a routine inspection

People who use the service told us they could contribute to the running of the service. One person told us there were residents meetings where they could talk about what was happening at the service.

One person told us they could speak to staff or the manager about what activities they would like the service to provide. They told us that they had recently attended a football match between Crystal Palace and Leeds United, gone on holidays to Greece and Germany; they attended in house art therapy classes and went to the pub twice a week.

Another person told us that they enjoyed magic; they showed us a magic trick and told us they were supported by staff to go to magic shops in London and Brighton.

All of the people we spoke to told us that staff treated them with dignity and their privacy was respected.

People told us they understood why they had been admitted to the service and had been fully involved in drawing up their care plans. Two people told us they had agreed to consent to treatment as part of the admissions process.

People told us that their care plans were regularly reviewed, all of the people we spoke to told us they knew who their care coordinators and General Practitioners where and they could contact them if they needed to.

People told us that the food supplied by the home was good. One person told us they sometimes cooked their own meals.

People told us the home was comfortable and met their needs. One person showed us their bedroom; they had a television and an en suite toilet and wash hand basin. They told us they were very happy with the overall comfort and appearance of the home.

There was a pool table in the lounge; one person told us they liked playing pool and watching sports on the television.

We spoke to some people in the smoking room. They told us the smoking room furniture was a bit tatty but was usually replaced or repaired, the rest of the home was comfortable and in a nice area.

All of the people who use the service we spoke to told us they were well supported by the staff team and the managers. There was always plenty of staff.

People told us that they could talk to the manager or staff about their concerns and they were confident they would always take their concerns seriously and would do something about them. They told us that if they had to make a complaint they knew the procedure to be followed and would do so if they needed to.
