During a routine inspection
People told us the food provided was good both in quality and presentation and they were encouraged to eat a healthy and balanced diet.
People told us that they receive their medication as prescribed and in a timely manner.
People told us that they felt safe living at the home and would have no hesitation in approaching the acting manager of other senior members of staff if they had any concerns about their safety or the standard of care and facilities provided.
People told us that they were generally satisfied with the standard of accommodation but were very pleased that the provider had started a programme of refurbishment. Comments from one relative included "while we have always been happy with the standard of care provided the home has been allowed to fall into a state of disrepair and is in need of urgent modernisation." The relative of one person living at the home said that she did at times have concerns about the cleanliness of the home and the standard of hygiene in the laundry area.
People told us that at times they were concerned that there did not appear to be sufficient care staff on duty. Comments included "we sometimes worry that in such a large old building there should be more staff around to assist people" and "the staff do a wonderful job but at times they do appear short staffed."
People told us that since the appointment of the acting manager their views and opinions have been actively sought about the quality of the care and facilities provided.
