All Inspections

7 October 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with six people who used the service, six members of staff and the registered manager. People who used the service told us they were happy with the care. One person told us, 'I love it here, it's like a holiday camp'. Another person told us, 'The care is very good here. I think the staff are very good'.

People told us they were involved in making choices about their care and treatment, and we observed staff responding to and respecting people's choices.

We saw that staff received appropriate training to enable them to meet people's individual needs and provide compassionate care in a responsive and timely manner.

People told us they received their medicines as prescribed, and we saw that only suitably qualified and trained staff supported people to take their medicines.

We saw that people's care was assessed and planned for, but people's care records did not always demonstrate that people's health and medication needs were met as planned for.

During a routine inspection

When we carried out our unannounced inspection we spoke with five people who used the service and five staff. We reviewed care records and other documents. We observed that before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes when it was in their best interest.

People who used the service told us that they were happy and satisfied with the care that they received. One person told us, 'Staff always listen to me when I speak'. Another person told us, 'I am very happy living here and like the meals, people and staff'. We observed that people were supported to have regular checks of their physical and mental health to ensure their health and wellbeing was maintained.

People we spoke with told us they felt safe at the hospital and staff that we spoke with had a good understanding of how to keep people safe.

We saw that people were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff. This meant that people were kept safe because they received care from appropriately trained people.

People were protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records were maintained.
