All Inspections

18 July 2013

During a routine inspection

There were five people receiving a service personal care service from the provider when we completed our inspection. Many of the people who used the service were unable to talk to us. We contacted people's representatives and spoke to staff.

People were involved in planning their care. People's consent was obtained by staff before their care was provided.

Staff demonstrated they had a good understanding of people's needs, knew people's routines and how they liked their service provided. People's plans of care contained instructions to staff about when and how to provide people's care.

The provider had reviewed staff training and skills since our last inspection and had developed training plans for each staff member. We found that staff had completed training and had the knowledge and skills to meet people's needs.

The provider had a process in place to protect people using the service from the risk of abuse. We saw evidence that the provider had taken appropriate action when they felt someone may be at risk.

The provider had a process in place to assess and monitor the quality of the service people received. People and their representatives were included in this process and had the opportunity to share their experiences of the care they received.

During a routine inspection

We visited the agency office and spoke with the manager and support staff. We sampled records and telephoned some people using the service to gain their views about the service they received.

People told us that their carers arrived on time and stayed for the allocated time. One person said 'I would highly recommend them. If I have a problem they sort it out and they help me out.'

Another person told us 'I am very satisfied with the service. I have a very good relationship with the agency, they are friendly and very helpful' and 'Mannaz have been terrific and (care staff) has been brilliant.'

People told us that they felt safe and at ease when the carers were in their homes. People said they trusted their carers.

Everyone we spoke to said that they were happy with the service. People said that they were treated with dignity and respect.

Staff were not up to date with all of the training they needed and were not properly supervised. This meant that staff were not fully supported and mentored and may not be up to date with the skills they needed to do their job safely.

During a routine inspection

After we visited we contacted people who used the service to ask their opinion. We were only able to speak to one person who spoke positively about the agency and told us that they felt that they were well supported. We were told that staff "Always went above and beyond".

We were also able to look at a selection of returned surveys which had been sent to people who used the service by the agency. The comments we saw were complimentary about the support people received and included:

"The care is professional but also friendly"

The care is "Not intrusive"

"I am happy with the high level care of provided. My relative has complex needs and all care staff are reliable and supportive".

"Without your care and support my relative could not have stayed at home and I would recommend Mannaz carers to anyone".
