31 December 2012

During a routine inspection

Until December 2012, the home was divided into two units, a short-stay assessment unit and a long stay residential unit. The short stay assessment unit has now closed and the home will now cater entirely for people who need a permanent home and ongoing residential care.

We saw that people appeared to be happy about the way they were supported and cared for. Staff ensure privacy and dignity is maintained. People told us that there were activities available to take part in but that they did not have to. People were given choices in aspects of daily life and that staff talked to the people who used services about what each choice meant to them. Staff respected the choices made. We saw that staff gave individualised care, specific to the person's care plan. All of the care records contained detailed and specific information about the individual. One person said 'I'm totally satisfied with the care of my mother. The staff, home, food ' everything is fantastic. We could not wish for better.... It is the best I have been in'.

Appropriate arrangements were in place in relation to safeguarding. One person told us "The staff keep us safe". Four people told us that the staff were 'lovely' and 'fantastic'. There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs. The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive.
