During a routine inspection

We visited the house and met three of the people who lived there and were receiving support, and saw two other people being supported by staff. We talked with one other support staff, a team leader and the house manager, as well as with the registered manager.

Some people receiving support said that they had lived at the home for many years and were very settled there. Two people said they were 'very happy' living in the home, and one said that staff 'look after us well.'

We saw that people were assisted in carrying out activities and were able to follow their preferred lifestyles. Support was given with daily living skills such as personal hygiene care, laundry management, finances, food preparation and medication.

We saw that the premises were visibly clean, and people were supported in keeping their own rooms and communal areas clean and tidy.

We visited the company's head office and inspected staff recruitment files, and complaints management.

We spoke to one person's relative and three health professionals who were involved in people's care. They all spoke very positively about the service with comments such as 'I cannot fault the care that X has been given.' 'Staff have frequently gone over and above 'the call of duty' to support X to provide a nurturing and caring environment'; and 'The office staff are all very helpful and approachable.'

During a routine inspection

The inspection was carried out by one Inspector over two hours. Some of the time was spent looking at documentation in the Head Office, and some time was spent in the home.

We (i.e. CQC) met three of the people living in the house, and we saw that they were relaxed and appeared to be happy living there.

One person was very expressive about their enjoyment of living there, and showed us their bedroom and photographs.

One person was eating lunch and smiled and said 'good' when we asked them about the home.

A third person said they 'liked living there'.

We met one relative who spoke highly of the service provided. She said that the service had 'helped to increase X's independence, and to do things she had not been able to do before. I do not have to worry about her now. If I had any concerns I would speak straight to the manager, but I don't have any.'
