All Inspections

During a routine inspection

Service users told us that they received good information and had their needs assessed before deciding to commit to the programme. One person told us how his assessment had taken place in prison and that he still received all the relevant information.

Regular service user meetings take place, where people can express their views and staff always have time to listen. Individuals value the one to one time with key workers and spoke highly of the staff team and the group work programme.

The female service users spoken to said that having separate accommodation areas for males and females provided a feeling of safety and security.

An individual, soon to complete the programme explained that they had been supported to find voluntary work and that they would be compiling an action plan for leaving, with their key worker. This plan will look at issues such as housing, employment and finances.

We received excellent feedback from professionals, from different local authorities who regularly fund placements at Withnell House. One person told us that they have a high professional regard for the service, that appropriate information is shared, there are excellent and thorough support plans and that the service is flexible to individual need whilst maintaining tight boundaries.

Another professional also spoke highly of the service. Saying staff will come out and do assessments at short notice to respond to unplanned detox and emergency situations and will conduct the assessment in hospital or in prison, to fit into individual circumstances. Staff will work with very difficult and complex individuals and achieve good outcomes. Regular written updates and care plan reviews are received. The service is very flexible and will work with individuals in ways which meet their individual needs within the set programme. Service users are challenged to address their individual needs and time is spent in purposeful activities. Practical issues such as housing and education are addressed, as well as emotional issues.
