During a routine inspection

This service offered one person support and care within a family environment. The person told us that they felt that they were part of the family. We saw that they were fully involved with the family and had a say in how they spent their daily life. We saw that there was a mutual respect between the registered person, family members and the person that lived in the home. For the purposes of this report and ease of reading we will call this person 'C'.

We saw that 'C' was happy living as one of the family. They were relaxed when speaking with us and when talking with members of the family. 'C' smiled a lot and spoke openly. They told us, 'I am very happy here, it's my home'.

'C' told us about the college they went to during the day. They showed us some of the course work certificates they had achieved. Topics covered at college included activities of daily living such as cooking. Attending these courses helped 'C' to increase and maintain their level of independence.

The family members who supported 'C' showed that they encouraged them to be independent. For example 'C' was supported to be involved in daily housekeeping chores such as cleaning and shopping.

During a routine inspection

The service provided individual support for one person who lived within a family environment. The person had lived as part of the family since an infant and had a close relationship with the registered person and all family members. The person told us they were happy with the care provided and enjoyed living with the registered person and family members.

The person was an active family member and told us they were able to be involved in all activities in the home including cleaning and shopping and enjoyed gardening and growing vegetables, looking after the pet cats and cooking. The person was encouraged to carry out activities independently and people understood associated risks and supported him to keep safe. The person enjoyed community activities and told us they liked going out independently using public transport and knew how to keep safe.
