All Inspections

28 October 2013

During a routine inspection

All personal information was kept confidential and on a computer. The system backup was off site which meant information would not be lost in the event of a flood or electrical problem.

All equipment was serviced where necessary but at least annually.

Audits on medication were completed by the doctor to ensure stocks were maintained and numbers agreed.

One person told us: "They accommodate appointments and have a good working environment". Another told us that the administration of the service was very good and that: "...the doctor's wife (the administrator) is amazing".

During a routine inspection

There were procedures in place, and being followed, to ensure that people gave their consent before any tests or treatment took place. People who used the service told us that the consultations were never rushed. They said that the doctor always took time to make sure he fully understood the reason for the appointment and he fully explained any options for treatment. One person who used the service told us, "The doctor listened to me then explained the medication and any possible side effects and how I should take them. He was most helpful and I didn't feel rushed." Another person who used the service told us that when they first registered with the service they were asked about their full medical history during the initial consultation. One person said, "The doctor was very friendly and took lots of time to explain everything." They also told us they had put off going to see a doctor after a negative experience with another doctor but would not hesitate in future or go anywhere else.

We found that the provider had procedures in place to deal with any safeguarding matters that may arise and that medicines were stored and recorded appropriately.

During a routine inspection

On the day of our visit to Sanctuary Medical Centre we were unable to speak with people who used the service as no appointments had been booked on that day. However, we were able to speak to five patients over the telephone soon after the inspection had taken place.

All of the people that we spoke with gave very positive accounts of their experience. They told us that they valued having time with a doctor who put them at ease and respected their views. One person said they had met many doctors over the years and,"This is the best one I have ever seen". Another said they,"Would not hesitate to use the service again".
