All Inspections

2 April 2013

During a routine inspection

At the time of the inspection, the agency was providing care to a limited number of people. We inspected the agency office and spoke on the telephone with two people who used the service and one relative. We found people had been involved in making decisions about their care and treatment.

People expressed their views on how they wanted to maintain their independence and care workers we spoke with told us how they supported people in their choices.

People were complimentary about the care and support they received. One person told us, 'I am really happy with the care I get.' Another person said, 'They are very good.'

The provider had a system in place to make sure staff recruited had the required documents and checks in place to protect people.

People who used the service were cared for by workers who were suitably trained and qualified to meet people's needs.

The provider supported their staff and made sure care workers were trained to an appropriate standard to meet people's needs. They also encouraged care workers to participate in regular team meetings and supervisions.

The three people we spoke with told us they had not felt the need to make a complaint because they were satisfied with the service.

We last inspected the service on 05 July 2012 and found that the provider had incomplete medication records. During this Inspection we found improvements had been made.

People told us that the provider involved them in planning their care. One person said, 'I'm involved in my care plan. They come to see me about my care.' A relative told us, 'I feel involved. When they do the reviews I'm involved.'

People also told us that they had a choice about which staff provided care to them. They said that this preference was identified during their initial needs assessment and was respected during their ongoing care. One person said, 'We had someone we didn't get on with. We spoke to the manager and we didn't get them again.'

People that we spoke with told us that staff treated them with respect while providing them with personal care. One person said, 'I get plenty of privacy.'

People that we spoke with told us they were happy with the care they received from the provider. One relative told us, 'They're very good. I feel mum's been cared for very well. Mum's very happy' and, 'Whatever mum needs, it's done. They look after mum marvellously. I've got no complaints.' One person who used the service said, 'They're very friendly and helpful. I am very happy.'

People that we spoke with told us that their care workers were punctual and stayed for their allotted time. One person said, 'They all arrive on time, 'and another said, 'They stay for the right amount of time, but they always ask if there's anything else before they go.'

People told us that staffing was consistent. One relative we spoke with told us, 'We get the same staff, mum knows them all.' Another person said, 'I've had the same two from the start and I'm in my fourth year now.'

People that we spoke with told us that they knew who to speak to if they had any concerns. They told us that they felt the provider would take their concerns seriously and take action.

One person told us that they had raised an issue with the provider and that it was dealt with promptly. They said, 'I had a conversation with the manager and they did something about it straight away.'

People that we spoke with who used the service gave us positive comments about the competence of the staff that provided their care. One person said, 'I think they're well trained.'
