The service should have quality checking systems to manage risks and assure the health, welfare and safety of people who receive care (outcome 16)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Benefit from safe quality care, treatment and support, due to effective decision making and the management of risks to their health, welfare and safety.

How this check was done

We reviewed all the information we hold about this provider, carried out a visit on 17/05/2012, observed how people were being cared for, talked to staff and talked to people who use services.

Our judgement

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.

The provider was meeting this standard

User experience

We observed two people who used the service.

Staff checked with people, each time they suggested an activity. They spoke with people about their care and asked if they were alright when they seemed upset.

Other evidence

The registered manager completed a yearly audit review report in November 2011. This report identified the action taken to improve the service. For example the report highlighted changes which had been made to the environment such as solar panels. It also identified the improvements to infection control practice through updated cleaning schedules.

People who lived in the home were asked their opinion about the service. The provider had used pictures and symbols which people understood. Questions included "do the staff treat you well".

A fire safety audit was completed by the fire service in March 2012 and the service was found to be satisfactory.

Accidents and incidents were analysed for trends. None had been noted. Complaints were also monitored quarterly. A medicines audit had been completed in February 2012 with a recommendation that an independent pharmacist complete an audit each year.
