During a routine inspection

We met and spoke with the only person currently living at Norlin House. They told us that they were happy living at the home, and that they felt well looked after. They said that they liked all the staff members who worked within the home, and that there was always someone there to help them and offer advice. They said they knew how to contact someone, when the house was not staffed. They told us that they liked to go out and were able to whenever they wanted to.

We spoke with a member of staff, and discussed training support and supervision. They were able to show detailed records of training that they had attended and were aware of forthcoming events. They felt well supported in their role and told us that there were daily opportunities to discuss any issues with the home management team, as well as regular support and supervision meetings. They told us they enjoyed working at the home and felt well supported.

We spoke with the registered manager and deputy manager, and discussed recruitment to the service they gave details on the system used and showed us the supporting documentation. We found the recruitment policy to be clear on all stages when recruiting staff to the home. Personnel files contained completed application forms, two references and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) / Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) certificates.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with the only service user currently living at Norlin House. They told us that they were well cared for and that the staff were always friendly and cheerful. They said that there was always a member of staff around to provide advice and support. They also told us they knew how to contact the person who was on call and that they could phone them if they had any problems or concerns. Comments included; 'I am well looked after here and the staff are good to me', 'I can come and go as I please' and 'I do not want to live anywhere else'.

The person told us that they were not sure how to make a complaint but said that if they had any concerns they would speak to a member of staff.

We spoke with a member of staff who told us that they would support anyone to make a complaint if they so wished.

We spoke with the homes manager and with one member of staff. They said that they enjoyed working at the home and that everyone got on well together.

During a routine inspection

People told us that they liked living at the home and that the service met their care needs. We were told that staff were kind and caring and that there was a good relationship with the staff.

People said that staff provided the support they needed and that they had no concerns about the staffing levels at the home. People told us that they were very comfortable and that they were warm and safe.

Comments included the following: 'Everybody treats me well and I am very happy here', 'The staff reminded me to do things' and 'I do not want to live anywhere else'.

People said that they were able to make informed choices. They said the food provided was good and that the home was always warm and comfortable. People said that they had no complaints about the service and that if they did they would speak to the staff.

We spoke with a healthcare professional who told us that the home provided good support for people. We were told that the home is proactive and will ask for advice and support if needed
