30 April 2012

During an inspection looking at part of the service

On this occasion we visited the service to check that there had been improvements made since 15th August 2011to protect patient's health and welfare. At that time patients told us that they were satisfied with the service provided. however they did say for example they were not aware the medication supplied is not licensed in this country, and they believed their GP (general practitioner) had been informed about the medication they were taking.

During this April 2012 visit patients told us that they were happy with the support they are receiving from the doctors and staff at the centre. They were aware that the medication is not licensed and patients confirmed they were given letters for their GPs to explain the medication they are taking. They were also given more dietary advice.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

People told us that they were satisfied with the service provided. They said that on their first visit they had been supplied with a diet booklet and information about the medicines they take. They told us they understood that the medication is not licenced or recommended for the treatment of Obesity by National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the Royal College of Physicians.

They also knew about the side effects of the medication such as high blood pressure. People told us that they visited the centre fortnightly to start with and then monthly. People said they are weighed and have their blood pressure taken at every visit. They all said they found the staff and Doctor friendly and helpful.

During an inspection in response to concerns

People told us that they were satisfied with the service provided. All people spoken to said that on their first visit they had been supplied with a diet booklet and one person said they had been given advice about exercise. They had been given written information about the medicines they take, including discussions about the side effects of the medication such as high blood pressure. People told us they were not aware whether the medication is licensed in this country, one saying 'they would not give us drugs that are unlicensed'. People told us that the doctor at the centre informed their General Practitioner of the medication they were prescribed.
